Valentina Zharinova (Russia)
I live in the capital of Russia - Moscow. Now it
is the nicest city. Moscow's never been so beautiful. I am 56 years
old which in our country is pension age for women. So, now I am
a pensioner. (I was a computer
programmer for 20 yars before our "Perestroika" in USSR.)
Writing computer programs is an excellent job. Unfortunately, in
our country programming is only for people under 45 years of age.
When our country became free and people were given the opportunity
to go
abroad we very much wanted to know what the World really was. In
1990 the first place I visited was the United States of America.
While visiting the U.S. I was introduced to egg crafting. When my
husband heard that I painted icon eggs he could not believe it as
I had never before painted. Today egg-crafting is my hobby. I paint
Russian folk motives,
icons, abstracts, national motifs from fairy tales on wooden eggs,
and dolls. I use acrylic, gouache and tempera and apply multiple
coats of lacquer. I like different styles in everything.
For the last 9 years I have regularly participated
in the following European Easter Egg Shows:
Bonn (Germany), Wassenaar (Holland), Arnhem (Holland), Thann (France),
Compiegne (France)
Pierrelatte (France), and Vred (France).
I have been fortunate enough to usually sell everything I take to
the shows.
