Rob Ghio
I carve emu eggshell. The emu eggshell has three
layers of natural color. By carving away the dark green/black outer
layer of the shell the light green/turquoise layer of color is exposed,
then by carving away that light green/turquoise layer of color the
white inner layer of color is exposed. I also carve and burn hard
shell gourds and inlay pieces of the carved emu eggshell into the
surface of the gourd. To my knowledge I am the only artist in the
world that is inlaying emu eggshell into gourds at this time.
I have no art training. I am completely self-taught.
I have exhibited my artwork at Art in the Park, in Columbia, MO
and at the Cedar Hurst Art Show in Mt. Vernon, IL; both of these
are juried shows, which are held annually. I have also entered my
work in gourd shows in Missouri, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, Tennessee
and Georgia. My work has also been exhibited and sold in galleries
in Columbia, MO, Branson, MO, St. Louis, MO and Prescott, Arizona.
I have won 1st place ribbons, purchase awards, best of category
awards, and artist recognition awards.
